Abstract

The biotechnological approach is environmentally friendly in the processing of textile materials. In recent years textile industries are paying special attention to the application of biotechnology for sustainable textile production.Sustainable production is important to reduce the use of natural resources and hazardous chemicals, reduction in generation of waste materials, and related costs and energy. This chapter summarizes the recent developments and key aspects of applications of biotechnology in textiles. Moreover, it highlights the various faces and facets of sustainability and their implementation in the clothing industry. This chapter pays more attention to basic concepts, biotechnology, and a glimpse of the nano-biotechnological approach, mechanisms and prospects. Furthermore, the limitations and future scope of the application of biotechnology in textiles are also addressed. Therefore the textile industries have to use these advanced technologies to make a huge difference environmentally, economically and socially for the benefit of living things.
