Abstract

Solinviviridae is a new family of viruses that possess non-segmented, single-stranded, positive-sense RNA genomes of 10–11 kilobases. This is a highly divergent group exhibiting phylogenetic, genome, and replication characteristics with aspects that are both picornavirus- and calicivirus-like. The family currently contains two genera, each containing a single species, Invictavirus (Solenopsis invicta virus 3) and Nyfulvavirus (Nylanderia fulva virus 1). Many other related sequences have yet to be formally classified.

Keywords: Ants, Biological control, Calicivirus, Entomopathogen, Formicidae, Insect, Invasive species, Jelly-roll domain, Picornavirales, Picornavirus, Ribosomal frameshifting, RNA virus, Subgenomic RNA.
