Science Express Climate Action Special (SECAS) - 20th to 22nd, 2017

 

Detailed Report

 

           The ENVIS centre at the Department of Zoology, University of Madras, Chennai participated in Science Express Climate Action Special (SECAS) at Karur Railway Station from 20th to 22nd June 2017. During this 3 days campaign, Team members from the ENVIS Centre allied with the event organizers to create environmental awarness among school and college students and public.

           A stall was put up at the station platform under ENVIS banner and various information products were palced to display the activities of the centre to the visitors. The role and importance of the ENVIS Centre on the theme "Microorganisms and Environment Management" was hightlighted in the event. Varous products published by the centre were showcased such as ENVIS Newsletter (english and tamil) and Book of Abstracts, Pamphlets and banners for World Environment Day on the resolute theme 'Connecting People to The Nature', a part of the above campaign, Posters and stickers related to environment pollution, conservation, recycling of waste products etc., Photo gallery of event conducted during the year 2016-2017, Information products on common diseases and its prevention. Mr. P. Thirumurugan (Information Officer) and Mr. D. Siva Arun (Programme Assistant) both together preceded the event. They explained the purpose of varous ENVIS Centres with relevant concepts they have been established. Similarly they briefed the function of MoEF & CC and their goals towards creating sustaniable environment by proper managment . The visitors to the stall were provided with pamphlets published for outreach activities. School students were provided with time table cards containing information and awarness on water, energy and general environment conservation. Mr. Surya Prakash, (District Revenue Officer, Karur), Mr. Chandrapaul (Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Salem) and Station Master (Karur) visited the centre stall and browsed through various information products kept at the display. Overall 51,551 visitors were observed in this 3 days program and approximately 45, 000 visitors would have viewed the ENVIS Stall at the platform and many of them interacted with our officers. With the preparation for the depature of SECAS to next station after this three day halt the participation of the ENVIS Centre in the exhibition ended successfully.
