Towards a New Generation of Commercial Microbial Disease Control and Plant Growth Promotion Products

Rainer Borriss

Abstract

Biofertilizer and biocontrol formulations prepared from plant growth-promoting bacteria are increasingly applied in sustainable agriculture . However, these bioformulations of the first generation are sometimes hampered in their action and do not fulfill in each case the expectations of the appliers. Unraveling specific responses of selected model bacteria on the global level will greatly stimulate the rational design of a new generation of biological fertilizer and biocontrol agents.
