Genetically Modified Crops

In order to feed the global growing human population, we are depends on the nature, especially on plants. Nowadays, certain Plants that are used in agriculture are genetically (at DNA level) modified to introduce a new trait to the plant which does not occur naturally, to develop resistance to certain pests, diseases, or environmental conditions in plants, reduction of spoilage, or resistance to chemical treatments or improving the nutrient profile of the crop,  using genetic engineering techniques. The first genetically modified plant was produced in 1982, using an antibiotic-resistant tobacco plant. The first field trials of genetically engineered plants occurred in France and the USA in 1986. Farmers have widely adopted GM technology. However, opponents have objected to GM crops per se on several grounds, including environmental concerns, whether food produced from GM crops is safe, whether GM crops are needed to address the world's food needs, and economic concerns raised by the fact these organisms are subject to intellectual property law.
